Here is what the Camp Carefree website says about what they do.
Since 1986, Camp Carefree has provided a FREE, one week camping experience for kids with chronic illnesses. Our program also includes camps for well siblings of ill children, and a week for children with a sick parent.
If you've never been out to one of Gate City Rotary's favorite places to put Service above Self, you really need to see some of our handy work out at Camp Carefree. We have some very talented members when it comes to carpentry and construction! I'm glad I got a chance to learn from them and take orders for a day! I won't be quitting my day job anytime soon, but I have to say it really wasn't a work day. It was tiring like work, but much more rewarding. In a previous project, Gate City built the entire dock system and a beautiful covered shelter at the lake. This year's project was to spruce things up a little, and we ended up replacing two walkways and putting in some new deck boards on the dock (not enough for Danny, but still plenty!). We finished it off with new bumpers on everything and it all turned out looking great!
Thanks to Danny Farley for coordinating everything, providing a great lunch, and all the tools and materials. It really was a fantastic day and great fellowship for everyone who could make it out on a Friday. Definitely my favorite project so far (I like them all, but this really was fun!).
If anyone has experience as a scuba diver, see Bobby. He's offering a reward for his hammer that's in the lake. I'll let him explain. And the part about spiders. Let's just say we saw a few!
Hope to see everyone on Thursday!
